Undercover

In the chill of October dark, creeps the critter, lethal and smart, squinty
eyed and sharp of claw, trundling closer with outstretched paw. Wind
screaming its fright -- stabbing through cold rain night. The creature
stealths up the limb, razor teeth protruding its Cheshire grin.
The hapless child lost in sleep, unaware the ever closer sneak.
Shutters slapping! Branches snapping! The monster braces for the
leap! Its claws outstretching through thick air, a deep gut growl, its eyes
aflair. The covers part above the lad -- a flying monster soars fur clad.
Its paws pounce nose, sheathing back its toes. A tiny tongue protrudes
sharp teeth and licks the boy on smooth cheek. The babe awakes a
drowsy smile. “Hi there Sugar, come sleep awhile!”
The monster kitty, his work not done -- off to sis’s for more fun.
